1. Does RB4120 4U External RAID Box come with hard disks pre-installed?
RB4120 4U External RAID Box does not include hard disk. The Raid Box is sold as a DIY (Do-it-yourself) RAID enclosure
kit. You will need to purchase hard disk separately from Rackmount.com or your prefer hardware vendors.
2. Does RB4120 External RAID Box have a built-in hardware RAID Controller?
RB4120 is marketed as a DIY (Do-it-yourself) RAID enclosure kit. It does not include a hardware RAID Controller.
3. Do I need an External RAID Controller for RB4120? (Such as AMI Explore 500)
You do not need an External RAID Controller for RB4120. The external RAID box supports your server's existing on-board
RAID controller such as AMI Enterprise 1600 or Mylex AcceleRAID 170/352. For software RAID operation, RB4120 supports
Adaptec 29160 or equivalent SCSI controller running on Microsoft Windows NT/2000, RedHat Linux or FreeBSD software
RAID utilities.
4. I have seen other vendors sell their RAID boxes with a hardware RAID controller. Why does not RB4120 come
with a hardware RAID controller built-in?
RB4120 supports 5.25" external RAID controller such as AMI Explore 500. Customers are free to configure/install
RB4120 with an external RAID controller.
5. Is the redundant power supply installed in RB4120 hot swappable?
Yes, RB4120's 300 watts hot-swap power supply module can be pull-out during disk operation without powering down
the unit.
6. Do you sell spare power module for RB4120?
Yes, we sell spare power module for RB4120. The part number is RB4120-300WPS-Module
7. What type of hard disks is compatible for RB4120? Any recommendations?
RB4120 supports SCSI hard disks with SCA-2 interface connector.
8. How many hot-swap removable hard disk trays does RB4120 come with?
RB4120-4 comes with 4 SD90 hot-swap removable hard disk trays.
RB4120-6 comes with 6 SD90 hot-swap removable hard disk trays.
RB4120-8 comes with 8 SD90 hot-swap removable hard disk trays.
9. Can I purchase additional hard disk trays for RB4120?
Yes, the additional hard disk trays are available from Rackmount.com. The part number is SD90
or SD90LED (w/SCSI Number LED).
10. Does RB4120 come with all necessary cables for a server connection?
RB4120 come with all necessary cables (both internal & external) to support server with following RAID controller
installed.
